EPA restores former water protection rules

The Environmental Protection Agency yesterday announced it will scuttle the Obama-era rules defining what what US waterways must be protected by law. The new EPA final rule will dial back protections to 1986 standards.

Barrasso called the WOTUS rule “outrageous,” adding that “we need rules that protect water respect local authority.”

Senator Mike Enzi said the Obama Administration rule was a huge regulatory overreach and that yesterday’s announcement is good news for rancher and small businesses.

The EPA will announce the new guidelines for which water bodies should remain federally protected by the end of the year. Environmentalists are expected to sue.
