Following the success of the first Hanna Community Barbecue, which was held recently, event organizers are planning additional town gatherings.
On March 29th, Hanna resident Larry Million held the first Hanna Community Barbecue at the town’s volunteer fire station.
Prior to the event, Million told Bigfoot 99 that he would be collecting donations during the free community meal. All money raised went to the tax-deductible nonprofit organization, the Hanna Community Fund, which provides financial assistance to Hanna residents facing hardships, such as house fires.

At the April 8th Hanna Town Council meeting, Million said he was pleased with the strong community turnout.
Audio PlayerMillion informed the Hanna Town Council that between the community barbecue and donation jars placed around town, the Hanna Community Fund has raised over $1,700.
Audio PlayerMayor Charlie George expressed his gratitude to Million and the Hanna Volunteer Fire Department for organizing the event, as well as council members Sam Sikes and Paul Cruz for assisting with the food service. Mayor George added that he would have helped more if his rubber gloves hadn’t been too small.
Audio PlayerHanna resident and Memorial Hospital of Carbon County Foundation member Donna Pipher thanked the entire Town Council for participating in the community barbecue. Pipher said the council’s involvement showed that they support the community and local events.
Audio PlayerMillion said he has been asked about plans for another community event. The Hanna resident said he will contact the town’s newly reestablished Recreation Board to organize a future fundraising activity as soon as possible. In the meantime, Million said he is seeking volunteers to serve on the Hanna Community Fund’s Board of Directors.
Audio PlayerMillion explained that he chose to host the community barbecue in the town’s fire department to provide shelter from the weather. However, the space wasn’t large enough to accommodate all the attendees. Million said he would like to hold future events in the parking lot of the shuttered recreation center.
