Hanna officials voted to use Wyoming Community Gas grant money to beautify the town hall.

Natural gas supplier, Wyoming Community Gas, returns a percentage of its profits to member municipalities each year. The towns are to use the money on projects that improve the lives of residents.

At the November 14th Hanna town council meeting, the council said it was leaning toward using the town’s $4077.04 Wyoming Community Gas grant to install a stone sign and flower beds outside of town hall. Residents asked the council to consider spending the money on other town improvements instead of flowers that will be eaten by the deer. The council motioned to table the matter until the next meeting.

During the citizen’s participation portion of last week’s Hanna town council meeting, resident Chris Karns asked the council to use the Wyoming Community Gas grant to beautify other areas of town instead of the town hall.

Karns said she has a town-owned lot near her home that contains unsightly weeds and sticker bushes. The Hanna resident said she would beautify the area herself, but fears that the town would remove her plants.

Town Clerk Vivian Gonzales said the town has earmarked money to address shortcomings at the park next to the recreation center. Clerk Gonzales said last year’s Wyoming Community Gas grant was used to purchase new stairs for the rec center pool.

Clerk Gonzales said Hanna officials would like to use this year’s $4077.04 Wyoming Community Gas grant to make the town hall appear nicer. Gonzales said most of the money would be used to install the new stone sign.

Town Treasurer Ann Calvert said the previous town council voted for the creation of a new town hall sign. Ballooning inflation put the price of the new sign out of reach until now.

The council unanimously voted to use the $4077.04 Wyoming Community Gas grant on a new stone sign and flower beds at town hall.
