Town officials in Hanna are asking residents to move their vehicles off the road when it snows. The town marshal may begin issuing tickets for noncompliance.
Parked vehicles on city streets, a common issue in many towns including Hanna, can make plowing more difficult and sometimes prevent snowplows from clearing some neighborhoods.
During the January 14th Hanna town council meeting, Mayor Charlie George asked for options to have vehicles moved off the streets during a snowstorm. Public Works Director Larry Korkow suggested having Marshal Dan Starr and his deputies tag vehicles that are obstructing the town’s snow removal efforts.
Marshal Starr explained that residents will be given a few days to move their vehicles off the streets before he issues a ticket. However, the marshal said he would rather speak to the resident in person before tagging their vehicle for citation or towing.
Marshal Starr said that legally, residents have three days to move their vehicles before being issued a ticket. However, the marshal said if the person reaches out to him and agrees to work with the town, they will be given more time to comply.
Mayor George approved of Marshal Starr’s plan to inform residents to move their vehicles off the road before tagging them for citation or towing.
