In Hanna, a resident will hold a barbecue tomorrow to raise money for the community. Everyone in the northern Carbon County town is invited.

Larry Million has arranged a free community barbecue to be held at the Hanna Fire Station.

Million told Bigfoot99 that while the barbecue is free to attend, donations will be accepted during the event. The collections will be used to help residents who have experienced a tragic life event, such as a house fire.

Million has established a tax-deductible nonprofit corporation called the Hanna Community Fund to manage the donated money. Volunteers are needed to oversee the fund and determine how the donations should be allocated. In addition to supporting families affected by tragedies, Million said the money may also be used for community improvement projects.

Million explained that the idea for a community barbecue came about when he was chosen to cook for the T-Bone Classic, an annual charity motorcycle ride that raises funds for Carbon County residents with health issues. He decided to hold the barbecue as a way to perfect the art of cooking a whole hog and to raise money for Hanna residents.

In addition to a whole smoked hog, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, and cornbread muffins will also be offered during the Hanna community barbecue.

Million is seeking volunteers to serve on the Hanna Community Fund board, assist with Saturday’s event, or both. Those interested in contributing are encouraged to call Million or simply offer their help during the barbecue.

When Bigfoot 99 reporter Matt Copeland last spoke with Million, one family and members of the Hanna Fire Department volunteered to assist with tomorrow’s barbecue.

Million emphasized that money collected during the event will not be used to help people pay their monthly bills. Instead, the Hanna Community Fund will be made available for major tragedies and county search and rescue operations.

Million also said he would like to offer the donation money to local schools.

The Hanna Community Barbecue begins at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29th, at the Hanna Fire Station. Food will be served at no charge, although donations will be accepted.
