County emergency agencies, including the Hanna Fire Department. will honor local graduates with a parade through town.

For the past five years, South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Service, or SCWEMS, and the Hanna Fire Department have arranged a senior cruise for Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow graduates. SCWEMS Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians, Kyle Warren and Shana Angel Romero, are putting together this year’s event.

Warren said after COVID canceled in-person graduations, SCWEMS created the senior cruise as a way to recognize the students’ accomplishments.

All the graduating seniors from H-E-M High School are invited to meet at the Hanna Fire Station and decorate their vehicles. Warren said afterwards, multiple emergency entities will lead the procession of graduating seniors through town.

After the cruise, emergency service personnel will have a barbeque for the seniors. Romero said the students will get free hotdogs and hamburgers as well as a small gift bag.

The 2024 H-E-M High School graduating class consists of ten seniors. Romero said in the last four years, every graduating student has participated in the parade. Parents and other residents are welcome to participate as well. Warren said the senior cruise is typically well attended.

Warren said residents can show their support for the graduating class without being in the parade. The AEMT said everyone is welcome to be a part of the senior cruise.

The SCWEMS AEMTs said the senior cruise is also open to graduating homeschoolers.

Warren said the exact parade route hasn’t been finalized yet. However, the cruise will pass the Hanna Recreation Center and then head back onto Adams Street to drive by the HEM High School, said Warren.

The fifth annual Hanna Senior Cruise is next Wednesday, May 22nd. Participants are asked to gather at the Hanna Fire Station, located at 111 2nd Street. Lineup is at 6:00pm. The parade begins at 6:30pm.
