The newly reformed HEM High School Booster Club is holding a homecoming fundraiser.

The town of Hanna’s sports program received a lot of attention in the late 2010’s, when Hanna Elk Mountain Medicine Bow High School students Shane and Conner McGraw were making headlines. Shane McGraw excelled in track and field, winning events like the 400- and 800-meter dash. His twin brother Conner scored all four touchdowns in a 2020 Wyoming all-star football game against Nebraska.

Buck’s Sports Grill owner Shawn Dahl said since that time, membership in the HEM Miner Booster Club dwindled to the point where the club was no longer supporting the local teams. The booster club was relegated to simply administering an annual scholarship. Dahl said he and HEM Principal Eli Hobbs chose to officially reform the Miner Booster Club with the intention of increasing community pride and participation in school events.

Since August 1st, Dahl said over 30 members have donated to the new HEM Miner Booster Club. The money was used to purchase matching clothing for the volleyball and football teams. Dahl said the booster club is working to foster unity among students and parents alike.

To generate more money and support the football team’s homecoming game against Dubois this Friday, the HEM Miner Booster Club is selling handcrafted mums. Dahl said the ribbon flowers can be customized to display a student’s name and jersey number.

A standard mum costs $25. Personalized flowers are $40 apiece.

Dahl said all the money received through donations and the mum sale goes to the school.

All mum orders must be submitted to the HEM Miner Booster Club by October 9th. Order forms can be found in the Hanna Elk Mountain Medicine Bow High School. Additionally, orders can be placed on the HEM Miner Booster Club Facebook page, a link to which will be included with this story when it is posted to the Bigfoot99 website later today.

Dahl said he is trying to find new ways to bring attention to Hanna sports and increase game attendance.
