The 2025 General Session of the Wyoming Legislature convenes one week from tomorrow, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
The legislature has proposed naming a highway after prominent Platte Valley figure, “Teense” Willford.
Earlier this month, District 47 representative Bob Davis introduced House Bill 0044 to the state legislature. The bill, backed by Senator Dan Dockstader and Congresswoman Harriet Hageman, proposes naming the stretch of road running between Riverside and the Snowy Range Pass intersection after the former house representative and entertainer.
Willford, known as the “Voice of the Valley,” died on September 3rd at the age of 85 following a lengthy battle with cancer.
House Bill 0044 also sets aside $3,000 from the state’s general fund to have the Wyoming Department of Transportation install the appropriate signage, in compliance with applicable federal and state law, to identify the Loren “Teense” Willford Memorial Highway.
The bill gives WYDOT until June 30th of 2026 to place two six-and-a-half-foot signs, one on Highway 230 in Riverside and the other at the intersection of Highways 230 and 130 between Saratoga and Encampment.
The Wyoming state legislature has yet to vote on the Loren “Teense” Willford Memorial Highway bill, although no representatives objected to its introduction.
