A hit and run crash in Dixon Monday night resulted in extensive property damage to the town park. A pickup truck with Colorado plates pulling a trailer apparently careened through a fence, wiping out park structures. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday, said Mayor Melanie Sielaff.

Two Carbon County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, arriving after the male drive and another man in the truck fled the scene. Mayor Sielaff said town residents arrived on the scene and began taking photographs before the men fled the scene.

The eyewitness photographs led to the identity of one of the drivers. One of the responding officers, Deputy Casey of Saratoga, confirmed that the truck involved in the incident was a red Dodge 2500 with Colorado plates.

The deputy said it would be premature to estimate the actual cost of property damage but said it likely is more than $1,000—the legal threshold under Wyoming law for reporting a vehicle crash.

Mayor Sielaff described some of the damage.

The mayor was hopeful for a positive outcome.

The population of Dixon is 70 people, according to the 2020 Census. Located in the Little Snake River Valley, Dixon is the sixth oldest town in the state and the second oldest town in Carbon County. Incorporated on July 21, 1887, only Laramie, Cheyenne, Buffalo, Chugwater and Rawlins are older.
