Elsewhere in Congress on Wednesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that the House of Representatives would recess early.

The move roiled House Democrats, who are demanding votes calling for the release of files from an investigation into the pedophile financier who lured politicians on both sides of the aisle to his island property in the U.S. Virgin Islands with promise of lavish parties and promiscuity.

To avoid what Johnson characterized as “political games,” the Speaker said the House would adjourn until September after voting scheduled for Wednesday night concluded. The announcement came after the House Oversight Committee voted to subpoena Ghislane Maxwell, the longtime partner of Mr. Epstein for a deposition.

President Donald Trump, whose opponents have recently tried to embroil him in the case, called the drama a Democrat-created “hoax.”

The House won’t vote again until September 2nd.

Meanwhile, Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming called on the U.S. Senate to cancel the August recess and stay in session to confirm President Trump’s nominees.
