Starting Wednesday, abortions will be illegal in Wyoming.

Governor Mark Gordon on Friday certified the state attorney general’s finding that a law passed by the legislature earlier this year is triggered by the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v Wade.

Much like his statement when he signed Enrolled Act No. 57 in March, Governor Gordon said in a tweet Friday, “I believe that the decision to regulate abortion is properly left to the states. As a pro-life Governor, my focus will continue to be on ensuring we are doing all we can to support mothers, children and families.”

Once the ban takes effect, all abortions will be illegal except in cases of rape or incest, or if the mother’s life or health is in serious danger. People who provide an abortion could face a felony charge and up to 14 years in prison.

Abortion providers and others in Teton County filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to prevent the ban from going into place. The plaintiffs are seeking an emergency ruling from the court for a temporary injunction on the ban starting today. Stay tuned to Bigfoot 99 for more on this story as information becomes available.
