Jones becomes the first female commission chair in Carbon County history. She called the vote of confidence from her fellow board members “a true honor.” Jones replaces John Johnson as chair. Johnson, who remains on the board, was reelected to the office in November’s General Election.

The former chairman took the oath of office along with the other county elected, including Sheriff Alex Bakken, Coroner Brittany Nyman, District Court Clerk Mara Sanger, Commissioner Travis Moore, Clerk Gwynn Bartlett, Treasurer Lindsey West, Assessor Renee Snider and County Attorney Sarah Chavez-Harkins.

During commissioner discussion near the end of the meeting, Commissioner Johnson reflected on his time as chair and county government in general.

Chairwoman Jones offered her thanks to her fellow commissioners for the honor of serving as the head of the board.

Jones said county staff and department heads are appreciated for the work they do because they make the job of being a commissioner “so much easier.”

Judge Dawnessa Snyder conducted the swearing-in ceremonies at Thursday’s commissioners meeting.
