In Washington D.C., even as ballot counting continues in some states nearly a week after Election Day, the latest numbers indicate that Democrats will maintain control of the U.S. Senate next year.

Next month’s runoff election in Georgia may tilt the balance of power one way or the other.

If Republican Herschel Walker wins the Georgia run-off, the party split would remain 50-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris able to cast a tie-breaking vote.

If Raphael Warnock wins the run-off, Democrats would have a clear majority.

Meanwhile, the battle for the U.S. House of Representatives remains too close to call. Control of the House could be decided by a handful of close races in California, which could take weeks to determine because of the state’s heavy reliance on mail-in voting and lax voting rules.
