Wyoming faces a reckoning over K-12 education. Coal is no longer the cash cow for classrooms in the state.

The challenge for legislative leadership is threefold. They must recalibrate school funding while dealing with steep revenue declines, a new breed of legislators who have sworn an oath against new taxes and a threatened revolt among school districts if their funding is cut.

During a two-day meeting last week, the committee charged with finding a way through the mess agreed to a compromise bill. Emma Diercks has the story.
