Carbon County residents are being asked for donations of gently used Halloween costumes.
With Halloween a little more than a month away, Lil Bear Home Daycare owner Tanna Lopez wants to make sure that every child has a costume.
Speaking to Bigfoot99 in June, Lopez said she was working with a Rawlins non-profit organization last October when she developed the idea of collecting Halloween costumes for the city’s youth. After a falling out with the organization, Lopez said she chose to continue pursuing the idea on her own.
Lopez created the Rawlins Halloween Costume Drive Facebook page to recruit community members to assist with her plan. The home daycare owner said due to her job as an in-home daycare provider, the committee members are needed to help organize the costume drive.
Lopez is asking for donations of new and gently used Halloween costumes for infants to high school age kids. Lopez said her goal is to ensure that every child in Rawlins has a Halloween costume.
Rawlins Halloween Costume Drive committee members have begun placing donation boxes around the city. Lopez said the brightly colored containers are difficult to miss.
During the September 3rd Rawlins city council meeting, Councilman Chris Weisenburg said residents have contacted him about the donation drive. Councilman Weisenburg asked if costume donation posters can be displayed in city-owned buildings.
Rawlins Public Information Officer Mira Miller said the city is participating in the costume drive. Donation boxes can be found in the Rawlins Family Recreation Center, city hall, and the Rawlins Police Department.
The costume drive will end on October 5th, during the 2nd Annual Taste of Wyoming food truck festival.
The donated costumes can be picked up at the Jeffery Memorial Community Center on October 12th and 13th, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
While all Carbon County residents are welcome to take part in the costume drive, Lopez said this year, her efforts are limited to the city of Rawlins. The drive organizer encouraged members of other communities to contact her about hosting their own Halloween costume donations.
Residents can visit the Rawlins Halloween Costume Drive Facebook page for a complete list of donation box locations or to volunteer to help. A link to the Facebook page will be included with this story when it is posted to the Bigfoot99 website later today.
