Memorial Hospital of Carbon County has hired a new general surgeon.
Dr. Ched Singleton joined the hospital in Rawlins last week. Speaking to Bigfoot99, Dr. Singleton explained that he was a general surgeon in a rural Alabama hospital for several years. Following the COVID pandemic, the medical facility experienced financial troubles, and Dr. Singleton began searching for another place to practice medicine.
Aware of his search for a new position, fellow Alabama resident and Memorial Hospital Interim Chief Executive Officer Gerald Parton persuaded Dr. Singleton to come to Rawlins. The doctor said he was originally looking for a temporary position, but his time in the city convinced him to stay in Carbon County.
Working in Rawlins also allows Dr. Singleton to be closer to his daughter, who lives in Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Singleton said his 25 years of surgical experience will allow him to offer a variety of medical procedures at Memorial Hospital.
Additionally, the doctor said he can perform endoscopy exams, such as colonoscopies, and basic cancer biopsies and surgeries.
As a former surgeon in Alabama, Dr. Singleton said he understands the unique challenges of rural healthcare. The doctor said he will do everything he can to keep patients in Carbon County.
While harsh winters may discourage some from living in Carbon County, Dr. Singleton is used to the cold weather. However, the doctor explained that it’s the people of our area who have convinced him to stay.
At 61 years old, Dr. Singleton said he hopes to remain in Rawlins until he retires.
The addition of Dr. Ched Singleton to Memorial Hospital will allow the medical facility to continue serving the people of Carbon County.
