More than 5,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers in the Rawlins area were thrown into the dark overnight because of an area-wide outage.

In Saratoga, electricity was lost around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday evening. Power was restored to the Platte River Valley around 2:30am. Again at 4:15 on Monday morning, power went off briefly in the Saratoga area but was quickly restored.

According to the Rocky Mountain Power website, 5,418 customers in Rawlins were without power in the 6 a.m. hour.  This was the message customers hear when they called the utility company’s support line.

Nearly another 200 customers were without power at the northern end of Carbon County in the Bairoil area on either side of Highway 287. Customers in the Kemmerer area were also experiencing outages.
