A Marine from Wyoming was among the 13 U.S. military members killed in Thursday’s suicide bombing attacks on the Kabul airport in Afghanistan. U.S. Marine Rylee McCollum of Bondurant was among those killed, the Pentagon said Friday. Governor Mark Gordon extended his condolences to the family.

“I’m devastated to learn Wyoming lost one of our own in yesterday’s terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan,” Gov. Gordon said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of U.S. Marine Rylee McCollum of Bondurant. Jennie and I, along with all of Wyoming and the entire nation, thank Rylee for his service.”

Gov. Gordon yesterday ordered both the U.S. and State of Wyoming flags be flown at half-staff statewide to honor and pay our respects to the U.S. service members and other victims killed in the terrorist attack on Thursday, in Kabul, Afghanistan. In addition to the 13 U.S. service members, at least 90 Afgans were killed and 150 people wounded. Flags should remain lowered until sunset on August 30, 2021.

An additional flag notification will be distributed once funeral arrangements for McCollum have been announced.
