The Medicine Bow Marshal’s Office will build a shooting range for themselves and the public to use.

During the May 8th Medicine Bow town council meeting, Marshal Roger Hawks said his department would move forward with the construction of a shooting range on town owned land. Marshal Hawks told Bigfoot99 that the range will be built south of town, on the other side of Highway 30. The marshal said having a shooting range close by will save his department time and money from traveling to and from Rawlins.

Marshal Hawks said he began thinking about building the shooting range last year. The marshal said heavy snowfall delayed the beginning of construction. Marshal Hawks said residents will also be able to use the shooting range when it is completed later in the summer.

Marshal Hawks said he and his deputies will use the range to maintain pistol and rifle certifications. The marshal said the actual dimensions of the shooting range haven’t been finalized, but he said he would like to have targets up to almost a mile away.

Marshal Hawks said the range will likely only feature paper targets when it opens. The marshal said he would like to get metal targets in the future.

Marshal Hawks said the shooting range should not be difficult to construct. He said some dirt work is all that should be required to get it operational.

Marshal Hawks said he is considering instituting a membership fee to cover the cost of upkeep. He said the Marshal’s Office would likely handle the shooting range maintenance.
