Memorial Hospital of Carbon County has sold two of its two clinic buildings to pay for continued medical service.

On Friday, February 7th, Chief Operating Officer Stephanie Hinkle announced that Memorial Hospital has sold the Saratoga and Rawlins clinic buildings. To save money, Hinkle said the hospital will rent the two clinics from the new owner.

Chief Operating Officer Hinkle emphasized the Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees did not want to sell the buildings. Needing more cash flow, selling the clinics was necessary to ensure the continued operation of the medical center.

Hinkle said a company called Rawlins Ventures purchased both the Saratoga and Rawlins clinic buildings.

The “brick and mortar” hospitals have not been the only assets up for sale.

Several months ago, Memorial Hospital of Carbon County also sold its mobile clinic to a separate medical organization based on the east coast.

Hinkle reassured patients that medical services across the county will remain unchanged.

Hinkle did not disclose the sale price, except to say that it was “substantial.”

Like many rural hospitals across the country, Hinkle said Memorial Hospital is experiencing severe financial difficulties. Faced with rising costs and decreasing insurance reimbursements, the Board of Trustees made the difficult decision to sell the clinics.

Hinkle said Memorial Hospital’s financial challenges have made it difficult to pay vendors for the medical supplies and equipment needed to operate the facility. The sale of the clinic buildings was necessary to ensure Memorial Hospital continues to meet the needs of its patients.

Hinkle created a Memorial Hospital master plan to help residents better understand what’s happening at the Rawlins medical facility. The chief operating officer explained that the master plan outlines the hospital’s strategies for improving finances and staffing in 2025. Hospital administrators will work to turn these goals into reality.

The Memorial Hospital of Carbon County Master Plan can be found on the hospital website. A direct link to the master plan will be included with this story when it is posted to the Bigfoot99 website later today.

Chief Operating Officer Hinkle said the document is a way to show residents how Memorial Hospital plans to improve over the next year.

The master plan also mentions that the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County Political Action Committee plans to reintroduce the formation of a taxpayer funded hospital district in 2026. The measure was narrowly defeated during the 2024 elections.

With the addition of Dr. Ched Singleton, the new general surgeon at MHCC, ongoing sleep studies, and a new family practice provider on the way, Hinkle said she is optimistic about the future of Memorial Hospital.
