The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office located a missing hunter last week.

On the night of October 31st, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office was notified about a group of stranded elk hunters south of Rawlins. Sheriff Alex Bakken said one of the hunters was separated from the group while searching for help. Sheriff Bakken said Carbon County Search and Rescue and Classic Air Medical helped look for the missing hunter.

Sheriff Bakken said in the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 1st, another elk hunter spotted the missing man about 19 miles south of Rawlins, near Miller Hill. Sheriff Bakken said the man was successfully rescued.

Sheriff Bakken said despite appearing disoriented, the man did not require medical attention and was transported back to Rawlins. The identity of the missing hunter has not been released, but Sheriff Bakken said he is a Rawlins resident.

The sheriff said the hunters were far from Rawlins when their truck broke down. Sheriff Bakken said thanks to the efforts of Carbon County Search and Rescue and Classic Air Medical, the missing hunter was safely returned home.

Sheriff Bakken said the missing hunter was lucky to have been found as quickly as he was. The sheriff said the best advice when stranded in the wilderness is to not leave your vehicle.

Sheriff Bakken once again thanked the Carbon County Search and Rescue volunteers and the staff at Classic Air Medical for safely bringing the missing man home.
