The missing Snowy Range motorcyclist has been found alive.

Around 9:00 am Friday morning, Carbon County Search and Rescue East Division was alerted to a missing person in the Snowy Range. Seventy-five-year-old David Vanleer disappeared while spreading his brother’s ashes in the mountains.

Earlier Friday morning, Vanleer’s daughter, MacKenzie Sohrakoff asked the public for help locating her missing father. A Facebook post from Sohrakoff stated that Vanleer had been missing since Thursday afternoon. Vanleer was listed as an insulin dependent diabetic riding an Aprilla brand motorcycle. The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the disappearance Friday morning and dispatched the local search and rescue team.

Roughly three hours after Carbon County Search and Rescue was called in, Vanleer was located alive. According to social media posts from Sohrakoff, Vanleer crashed his motorcycle while in the mountains, suffering only minor injuries. Sohrakoff wrote that Vanleer will stay in Encampment for a few days to rest and recover before returning home to Boise, Idaho.
