In the Platte Valley, a missing person’s report led local law enforcement on a search which resulted in finding a deceased male victim.

On Thursday, January 19th, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Sheriff Alex Bakken said his department received a call about a missing person from Saratoga. Sheriff Bakken said searchers outfitted with aerial surveillance equipment spotted the missing person’s car. The male victim, whose name has not been release was found a short distance from their stranded vehicle.

Sheriff Bakken the search took about four hours to complete from the time they received the missing person report. The vehicle was discovered around 50 yards off the road, on Stock Drive Way in a rugged area outside Encampment.

The vehicle was discovered stuck in the snow half on the road and half in a ditch. Encampment police chief, Kevin Shue, said members of the Carbon County Office of Emergency Management and Sheriff’s Department, as well as Saratoga and Encampment PD joined in on the search.

Both the Carbon County Office of Emergency Management and the Encampment police department have drones equipped with thermal vision. Chief Shue explained how the high-tech equipment, and knowledge of the area, helped in the search.

Once the investigation is concluded, Sheriff Bakken said more information will be released. Bigfoot 99 discovered the name of the victim through our own resources. Out of respect for the victim’s family, the name of the deceased is being withheld until the official report from the Sheriff’s office.
