The south side of the Snowy Range glowed red last night with smoke from the Mullen Fire spilling into the Platte Valley Thursday morning. The fire grew yesterday to 17,763 acres.
More growth is expected today as winds pick up today and tomorrow ahead of an incoming cold front.
The incident team in charge of suppressing the fire is preparing for increased fire activity. Emma Diercks has the latest.

Updates since this morning’s original story: The Mullen Fire made a run late yesterday into the Platte River Wilderness on the southeast side of the fire. On Tuesday at the town hall meeting, Blue Team operations manager said resources were limited in that area.
The incident team is using helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to stop the fire from progressing in the wilderness area.
Large area closures across the Medicine Bow National Forest continue because of the fire. As a result, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department announced Thursday that it would refund big game licenses to hunters who have been affected by the Mullen Fire and related closures.
