On the floor of the United States Senate in Washington, D.C., Wednesday, Senator John Barrasso recognized the role of law enforcement in making the nation a safer place.

This is National Police Week.

During his remarks, Senator Barrasso paid tribute to Sergeant Nevada Krinke of the Sheridan Police Department who was murdered in the line of duty by a criminal suspect last year.

The Senior Senator from Wyoming thanked the officers present in the Senate Gallery on Wednesday and across the country for serving to protect, often putting their own lives in danger. Barrasso said keeping our communities safe “is a way of life.”

Here in Carbon County, law enforcement officers will gather in Rawlins this afternoon to honor their fallen colleagues in a historical remembrance.

National Police Week will be recognized with a flag ceremony and open house at the Rawlins Police Station. Police Chief Mike Ward said law enforcement officers from around the county will gather in Rawlins to honor their fallen brethren.

Following the flag ceremony, the Rawlins Police Department will host an open house.

National Police Week began this past Sunday and continues through Saturday, May 17th. This afternoon’s flag ceremony, to honor fallen officers from across the country, will begin at 2:30 p.m. outside the police station at 215 5th Street in Rawlins.
