The city of Rawlins announced its new Parks and Recreation Director: Heather “Nikki” Howell.
Jason Sehon resigned as the head of the Rawlins parks and rec department in December. Since that time, Nikki Howell served as the interim parks and rec director.
Howell is a Rawlins native with a background in business and finance. She joined the city’s parks and recreation department three years ago.
During the March 19th Rawlins city council meeting, City Manager Tom Sarvey informed the council that Howell was officially selected to be the new director of the city’s parks and recreation department.
Howell sat with Bigfoot99 reporter Matt Copeland to talk about her vision for the city’s recreation department. Howell said she doesn’t have any major changes in store now that she’s at the helm.
Howell said she will continue the projects her predecessor set in motion, such as getting the little league baseball fields ready for play. The parks and rec director said a generous grant has allowed city parks and streets crews to begin preparing additional sports fields for future games.
Howell also said she ordered new turf seed for the city’s ball fields. The parks and rec director said the drought-resistant grass should make it easier to keep the fields playable.
Howell said the Rawlins parks and recreation department’s biggest asset is the people. Howell said she can rely on her experienced team to ensure that the city’s green spaces are properly maintained.
On top of her reliable staff, Howell said her department couldn’t exist without the help of volunteers. Howell said the parks and rec, golf, and shooting range volunteer advisory boards ensure that their individual fields of interest are being taken care of.
Howell said her department is always looking for more volunteers. Call Parks and Recreation Director Nikki Howell at 324-7529 for more information about volunteering or upcoming sports and activities.
