Carbon County is honoring local veterans by participating in Operation Green Light.

During Tuesday’s Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting, Chairman Travis Moore announced plans to join Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative that honors U.S. veterans by encouraging communities to display green lights as a symbol of support.

Chairman Moore read Resolution 2025-26, formally declaring the county’s intention to participate in the program. The Commission Chairman said Carbon County residents appreciate the veterans who safeguard our freedoms and way of life.

Organized by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers, Operation Green Light calls on every county, parish, and borough to shine a green light on government buildings from November 4th through the 11th. The light signals to veterans that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

Continuing to read from the resolution, Commission Chairman Moore said many service members have a hard time adjusting to civilian life after leaving the military.

According to County Veteran Service Officers statistics, local veteran service departments in 29 states help veterans access more than $52 billion in compensation, pension, health care, and other benefits every year. Additionally, counties that operate Veterans Treatment Courts can help former service members access mental health and substance abuse treatment, reducing suicide rates.

Reading from Resolution 2025-26, Chairman Moore said Carbon County will participate in Operation Green Light as a tribute to veterans.

In observance of Operation Green Light, Chairman Moore said the Board of County Commissioners will illuminate the Carbon Building and Carbon County Courthouse with green lights from November 4th through Veterans Day.

The Board Chairman urged residents of Carbon County to follow suit.

Commissioner John Espy explained that Operation Green Light was created by a veteran in Carbon County, Pennsylvania. Commissioner Espy said it made sense for Carbon County, Wyoming to join the initiative.

Commissioner Sue Jones thanked Buildings and Grounds Manager Jeff Askins for finding and installing the green lights.

The Board of Carbon County Commissioners unanimously voted to pass Resolution 2025-26, declaring their intention to participate in Operation Green Light.

In an email to Wyoming County Commissioners Association members, Executive Director Jerimiah Rieman shared an Amazon link highlighting veteran-owned businesses. Executive Director Rieman wrote that the online retailer offers a “Prefer Veteran Owned Business” option, which prioritizes items sold by veteran-owned sellers in search results.
