The Platte Valley Arts Council is looking to launch a public art project with large installations to be built at six locations across the valley. Arts Council Treasurer Stacy Crimmins approached the Saratoga Town Council at its last meeting seeking a letter of support for the project. Councilwoman D’Ron Campbell read from a letter provided by the Arts Council describing the project.

The letter states that local and regional artists will be asked to submit designs. A jury will select five projects, with the artists being compensated for their talents and materials.

Crimmins, who wrote the letter from which Campbell read, approached council and noted that locations for two of the murals are under consideration already.

This is not the PVAC’s first venture into large public art installations. The group owns and maintains three large murals. One depicting ranch life is located in Downtown Saratoga in a privately owned green space on Bridge Street. Another, depicting the history of the Platte Valley through the representation of a quilt, is mounted to the Saratoga Museum. A third art installation, created from recycled bottle caps by the local preschools, is located Encampment on a highway right-of-way.

Town Council unanimously approved the request to sign a letter of support for the project as the Arts Council seeks grant funding and private underwriting to fund the project.
