The Platte Valley went without electricity for almost 24-hours over the weekend beginning early Saturday afternoon.
According to a Facebook post from Carbon Power and Light, a 16-member crew from Tri-State Generation and Transmission from Colorado worked through the night Saturday to restore power around noon on Sunday.
Grateful residents from across the Platte Valley cheered on the work of power crews in a series of posts on social media, thanking them for their work.
The first post from Carbon Power was made early Saturday afternoon, reporting that a “transformer tripped out” at the Trowbridge Substation. CP&L advised in the post the outage would likely be an extended one.
It was.
At 8:20 p.m., the Saratoga Police sent a text message advising residents that the power outage was expected to extend through the night.
Police advised residents with urgent medical needs to call the Rawlins Police at 328-7777.
Power was continuously restored to the Platte Valley on Sunday around noon, after several attempts beginning around 10 a.m.
Valley residents received an emergency message regarding food safety regarding the outage. Refrigerators without power for four hours could compromise the health safety of foods. “When in doubt, throw it out,” the advisory stated.
Food held in freezers should be okay. According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture web site, a full freezer will hold the temperature for about 48 hours, or 24 hours if it is half-full.
In Saratoga, most businesses, including the grocery store, bar and restaurants closed early Saturday afternoon after the power went out. Businesses, typically open on Sunday, reopened after power was restored.
