Carbon County Search and Rescue Volunteers saved four stranded boaters from the North Platte River on Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Alex Bakken announced that on June 4th, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a distress call from multiple individuals reporting a canoe had capsized on the North Platte River, north of Saratoga. The boaters said they were clinging to a partially submerged log in the river.

Sheriff’s deputies were able to locate the stranded paddlers from the shore and called Carbon County Search and Rescue for support. Using a raft, Search and Rescue volunteers successfully retrieved all three boaters from the river.

After rescuing the three victims, the volunteers were informed about two other people who had capsized farther down the North Platte River. One of the individuals had managed to make it to shore and called the Carbon County Dispatch Center. Search and Rescue volunteers found the second group of boaters and safely rescued them as well.

Sheriff Bakken wrote that no one was injured in either incident and all boaters were safely returned to their vehicles at the Hobo Hot Springs parking lot.

Sheriff Bakken thanked the Carbon County Search and Rescue volunteers for their commitment to keeping everyone safe on the North Platte River.
