Public officials in Rawlins are asking residents to monitor and report vandalism that is occurring to facilities in city parks.
According to a new release issued yesterday, restrooms in the parks have been closed multiple times this year because of toilets deliberately clogged by vandals. Repairs have ranged from simple fixes to replacement of a sewer line.
The release said the damage to the public spaces could lead to “the decision to close affected bathroom facilities on a more permanent basis.”
The most common forms of vandalism occurring are:
- Items placed or forced inside toilets to clog them.
- Graffiti, almost 100 items were tagged so far this year alone.
- Property destruction to playgrounds and other public spaces
- Trash being dumped in bathrooms and other public spaces.
Repairing the damage is an ongoing issue that leads to closed bathrooms and prevents staff from addressing normal maintenance.
The city asks anyone with information regarding the vandalism to call The Rawlins Police Department at 328-4530.
