A legislative candidate from Rawlins described her time at the Republican National Convention with Bigfoot 99 reporter Matt Copeland.

Rawlins Mental Health Provider Sheryl Foland is running to represent District 15 in the Wyoming legislature. Foland said she became interested in politics when she was asked to help draft legislation for new anti-stalking laws. After the legislation was passed the Wyoming Legislature, Foland said she realized every resident has the potential to affect the trajectory of the state.

Foland said she wants to keep the momentum going by becoming the House District 15 Representative. If elected, Foland said she will ensure that the issues facing small towns, such as high property taxes, aren’t overlooked by lawmakers in Cheyenne.

Foland said high property taxes are not just a burden on property owners, but renters as well. Landlords are likely to pass the costs on to their tenants.

On top of running for House District 15, Foland and her husband, Michael, were elected by the Carbon County Republican Party as area delegates for this year’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Foland was also part of the RNC Credential Committee that reinstated the two Republican delegates from Missouri. She found it exciting to be a part of a process set up by our founding fathers.

Foland said the Fiserv Forum Convention Center went quiet as former President Donald Trump, fresh from the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, began to speak. The entire experience was nearly unbelievable, said Foland.

Security was understandably tight at the convention following the failed attempt on the former president’s life.

Foland said law enforcement agents were on board every delegate bus to and from the convention center. Secret Service members she spoke to during the convention expressed their dedication to their job.

At the convention, Foland said she met many famous Republican party members, such as South Carolina Governor Nikki Hayley and former wrestler Hulk Hogan. However, Foland said her favorite part of the convention was Trump’s emotional speech.

Foland said her time at the Republican National Convention demonstrated just how important Wyoming is on the national stage.

Foland was unable to join the other House District 15 candidates, Terry Weickum and Pam Thayer, at the July 11th candidate forum in the Carbon County Higher Education Center. She was attending the Republican National Convention at the time.

District 15 residents will have the chance to vote for their House Representative during the August 20th primary elections.
