In Rawlins, more than 20 mule deer were lethally removed from the urban herd under the Chapter 56 permit during the 2021 season. Not a single one tested positive for chronic wasting disease.

The meat from their bodies will feed 20 local households for months to come. Meanwhile, the advisory group is exploring ways to address public concerns about safety, code enforcement and what constitutes an appropriate sized population. Cali O’Hare reports.
