Rawlins officials are looking for help from the state to deal with two dozen abandoned and dilapidated buildings that were condemned years ago, but which are still standing. The run-down properties pose both a danger to the public and an impediment to city improvements.

Cali O’Hare looks into the challenge the city is facing and what officials are doing about it.

Pictured above: The Budget Inn, located at 1507 W. Spruce Street and owned by Nazim Hassam, who is a resident of Bartsonville, PA, was condemned in June 2012. Notices from that time still posted on each door demand the building “be brought into compliance by July 5, 2012.” Despite that, the building continues to deteriorate, intruding on the skyline near the west entrance to the city.
