In Rawlins, the city council is working to set a precedent that important documents and drafts be reviewed by the city attorney for legal sufficiency and compliance. The ordinance was introduced not in response to the current climate within the Rawlins City Hall, but to ensure past issues aren’t repeated. Cali O’Hare reports.

Rawlins Mayor Terry Weickum grins as he looks on. The City Council voted 6-0 Tuesday to set a condition precedent that the City Attorney’s office will review all proposed resolutions and ordinances before they’re introduced to the governing body, noting that previous administrations have occasionally circumvented the attorney’s advice on important decisions, like the $50,000 a year contract with Buxton. The ordinance was introduced by Councilman DeBari Martinez Tuesday to ensure that never happens again. Photo by Cali O’Hare/Bigfoot 99.
