A Rawlins-based community group is seeking yard nominations for an upcoming beautification project.
Earlier this summer, a group of concerned Rawlins citizens banded together to beautify the city, calling themselves Uplift Rawlins. Since that time, the collective has maintained flower planter boxes, cleaned the Colorado Street underpass, and launched the Home and Business of the Month Awards, which recognizes residents who take pride in the appearance of their properties.
Uplift Rawlins has now introduced its newest beautification project: the Yard Lift program. Uplift Rawlins member Jenita Calton said the initiative allows the organization to assist residents who struggle to maintain the outward appearance of their property.
Residents may nominate a property owner who may need help with raking, removing tree limbs, or clearing overgrown vegetation. Uplift Rawlins member Jill Patterson said the goal of the program is to enhance the city’s appearance while improving residents’ quality of life.
Uplift Rawlins has provided an online nomination form for residents to submit properties to the Yard Lift program. Member Jenita Calton said the consent of the homeowner will always take priority, ensuring that participation is voluntary and respectful. Calton said the purpose isn’t to embarrass the property owner, but to highlight the community’s willingness to help.
Uplift Rawlins is accepting Yard Lift nominations until Monday, September 15th. The group will meet on Thursday, September 18th, to select the chosen candidate. Member Jill Patterson said that after making the final decision, the group will determine what equipment and how many volunteers are needed to clean the property. Patterson encouraged residents to visit the Uplift Rawlins Facebook page for more details about the cleanup effort.
After a recipient is chosen, Uplift Rawlins will select a Saturday in early October to give that community member’s yard a boost.
The Uplift Rawlins Yard Lift program is open to all city residents needing assistance with their properties, whether they’re a senior, a busy single parent, someone living with a disability, or just a neighbor who’s had a rough year. For more information, visit the Uplift Rawlins Facebook page or attend the next group meeting on Thursday, September 18th at 5:30 p.m. at the Rawlins Music Academy, located at 208 West Cedar Street. A link to the Yard Lift nomination form will be included in this story when it is posted to the Bigfoot99 website later today.
