Homeless animals at the Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter are searching for loving homes. One might fit in with you.

The Rawlins animal shelter is home to 15 dogs and 12 cats. Rawlins Police Lieutenant Daria Hooper asked to highlight two graduates from the Cage to Save program, Meatball and Thor.

The Cage to Save program is an initiative unique to Carbon County where inmates of the Wyoming State Penitentiary train shelter dogs in basic obedience and good behavior. Lieutenant Hooper explained that the nine-week program is designed to ensure that graduates become excellent pets.

Brothers, Meatball and Thor, recently graduated from the Cage to Save program but have yet to find their forever homes. Lieutenant Hooper said the two mixed-breed dogs will make great pets for anyone open to adoption.

Lieutenant Hooper also asked to highlight a cat housed at the Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter. The police lieutenant explained that Sage is an all-black cat who is friendly toward other cats. After giving birth to a litter of kittens in the shelter, all of whom have been adopted, Sage is still searching for her new owners.

Lieutenant Hooper mentioned that Sage will also do well in a home with small children.

The Rawlins animal shelter is always in need of donations. Lieutenant Hooper encouraged residents to donate either pet treats or money to the shelter. The money is used to pay for medical treatment for the animals.

In lieu of money, you may also donate your time as a volunteer. Lieutenant Hooper said to contact the shelter if you would like to help take care of the animals.

For more information, call the Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter at 328-4534 between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Adoption fees are $35 for cats and $50 for dogs.
