The City of Rawlins is set to hire a new temporary City Manager tonight.
As reported by Bigfoot99, Rawlins has been without a full-time City Manager following Tom Sarvey’s extended medical leave in August. Since that time, the City has appointed two Acting City Managers: Pam Thayer, who served for less than a week, and Police Chief Mike Ward, who is currently filling the position.
During a special meeting on September 26th, the Rawlins City Council voted to authorize Mayor Jacquelin Wells to enter into a contract with an Interim City Manager candidate. At the time, the candidate’s name was not public.
Yesterday morning, the City of Rawlins posted the agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting, which includes a resolution appointing Matthew J. Hall as Interim City Manager. Hall previously served as mayor of Cody, Wyoming in 2016 and again in 2020.
According to his biography, Hall’s family moved to Cody in 1978 to start Caleco Foundry, a bronze art business still in operation today. After a stint as a golf pro in Arizona, Hall returned to Cody in the early 2000s, where he worked for Wyoming Financial before rejoining his family’s business. Since leaving the mayor’s office in 2020, Hall has continued to serve on the Cody Chamber of Commerce board and the Forward Cody economic development board, while also working for a local real estate company.
During tonight’s City Council meeting, the governing body will present Hall with a contingent offer. If Hall accepts the City’s terms and passes the prerequisite background and reference checks, he will be appointed as Interim City Manager and paid $11,666 per month. Additionally, Hall will receive an extra $1,666 monthly housing allowance to cover his temporary move from Cody to Rawlins.
The governing body of Rawlins is set to vote on Hall’s appointment during tonight’s City Council meeting. Pending approval of the resolution, Hall will begin serving as Interim City Manager the following day, Wednesday, October 8th.
