Today is a federal holiday, Veteran’s Day, a day set aside to honor all the men and women who have served our country, in war or peace.

The date was chosen in 1919 to signify the end of fighting in World War I a year earlier—on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

Originally known as Armistice Day to celebrate the veterans of World War I, the 83rd Congress changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954 to honor American veterans.

Cali O’Hare has a roundup of Veterans Day activities in Rawlins.
