The Carbon County Republican Party will host a free “daddy-daughter” dance this Saturday.
The annual event will be held this Saturday, March 8, at the Jeffrey Memorial Community Center in Rawlins. In the past, the Daddy Daughter Ball has been held as a traditional fundraising event for the local Republican Party in Carbon County.
The organization’s Vice Chairman Joey Correnti IV said registration numbers for the event are running lower than usual. When he was informed most people were worried about not being able to afford to attend because of the economy, Correnti said the Republican Party decided to eliminate the entry fee.
Traditionally, the Daddy Daughter Ball costs between $70 and $85 per couple, based on the time of registration. However, Correnti said Wyoming Congresswoman Harriet Hageman’s financial contribution to the state’s political parties made it a simple decision to remove the fee.
Vice Chairman Correnti said the annual Daddy Daughter Ball is too important for the community to cancel it outright. Instead of using the dance to raise money, Correnti said the Republican Party chose to offer it as free event for the community.
With the passing of Senate File 69 at the legislature this year and its signage into law by Governor Mark Gordon, local property taxes across Wyoming will be lowered by 25 percent. Senate File 69 provides for a 25% exemption on the fair market value of all single-family residential structures and associated land starting with tax year 2025.
In a release Wednesday from Carbon County Clerk Lindsey West, whose official duties include collecting tax payments, the 25% loss across the board adds up to nearly $2 million—$ 1,983,278.53 using 2024 values.
Carbon County officials—facing a loss of more than $414,000 in the coming fiscal year–have discussed reducing services, such as limiting the amount of dust-reducing magnesium chloride used on the county’s dirt roads.
Republican Party Vice Chairman Joey Correnti suggested that county officials should follow the example set by the Republican Party. Instead of depending on the government to fix every problem, Correnti said residents should rely on one another, a trait inherent to the people of the Cowboy State.
