K9 Sasha, the accelerant-sniffing dog at the Rawlins Fire Department will retire this summer, following more than a decade of sniffing out fuels used to set intentional fires around the state of Wyoming.

Up until recently, Sasha was the only State Farm certified arson detection dog in the Cowboy State.

In December, K9 Jennifer joined the department and she and her handler are now fully certified. Just like her predecessor, K9 Jennifer will travel across Wyoming to wherever she’s needed.

Bigfoot 99’s Cali O’Hare met with Jennifer and her handler at the Rawlins Fire Station earlier this week and filed this report.

In the video below, RFD Captain Stephanie Schofield is seen working K9 Jennifer on a device called a Daisy Wheel. Inside each of the cans is a smaller can — some contain droplets of fuels. Jennifer is trained to passively alert her handler in order to preserve valuable evidence at the scene of a suspected arson. When Jennifer sits, she’s telling Schofield that an accelerant is present.
