Tomorrow is Free Fishing Day in Wyoming. Each year on the first Saturday of June, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department allows anyone to fish in Wyoming without a license. In Saratoga, the local Lions Club will again sponsor a Family Fishing Day as a way for kids to be introduced to the rewarding outdoor activity.

The first generation of kids that first turned out for the event at least 40 years with their parents is now taking their own children. One of them is Lions Club President Richard Raymer who was a kid when the event was much smaller. In the early years, it was held at the boiler pond at the old sawmill. Raymer, who said he caught a few trout there on Family Fishing Day, said the event has grown to become a regional attraction.

The grab bag includes lures and other fishing related items. About 25 years ago, the event moved from its original location to the Saratoga Hot Springs Resort. That’s where it will be held again this year.

Lions Club members serve up grilled hamburgers for all the attendees. If you take advantage Free Fishing Day, remember that all other fishing rules and regulations, such as creel and size limits, gear restrictions and stream closures remain in effect.
