The Saratoga Town Council, to soften the blow from a pending 10 percent increase to the water and sewer rate for residents, will cut the fee for weed and pest by 40 percent.

On June 8th, the Joint Powers Water and Sewer Board voted to increase the water and sewer rate for Fiscal Year 2023 by 10 percent. At last week’s Saratoga Town Council meeting, Councilman Jon Nelson explained what the adjustments will mean for monthly bills.

Nelson noted that water usage is different from household to household. Some use more, some use less. So the gross impact on bills after the adjustments will vary.

The councilman then made three separate motions, one each to increase the water and sewer rates by ten percent and to decrease the rate for weed and pest by 10 percent. Each motion passed unanimously without further discussion.

Nelson said he understood the 10 percent increase as agreed to by the Joint Powers Board will apply to both the base rate and usage.
