Saratoga’s recreation director will step down from the position next month.

Sarah Laughlin has held the position of recreation director since November of 2021. At last night’s Saratoga town council meeting, Laughlin turned in her resignation. Her last day will be May 7th.

The Saratoga native has been preparing to open the town’s pool. She has hired a new pool director, who is undergoing certification in Cheyenne and is advertising for lifeguards. The pool opening date is scheduled for June 1st. Laughlin said any flooding that occurred would push the date back.

The recreation commission board is discussing lowering this year’s pool fees or offering resident discounts and family memberships.

Laughlin thanked the previous council for appointing her as rec director. She said she isn’t leaving the Valley and will continue to help in any way she can.

Laughlin said no specific reason triggered her resignation. She said her priorities have changed and she needed to focus on different aspects of her life.

The council reluctantly accepted Laughlin’s resignation letter. Mayor Chuck Davis and the other council members thanked Laughlin for her hard work. The council did not discuss Laughlin’s replacement.
