The Saratoga town council chose a new streets department foreman and increased the salary of the water and sewer supervisor.

Long-time Streets Department Supervisor John Lasco is retiring after 45 years of working for the town of Saratoga. At the October 1st Saratoga town council meeting, Public Works Director Emery Penner recommended promoting Operator Eugene Stubbs to the foreman position.

The governing body unanimously voted to move Stubbs to the first step of the Streets Supervisor pay scale at $26.50 an hour plus benefits. Penner said he will begin accepting applications to fill Stubbs’s previous operator position.

At the same time, Penner asked to increase the salary of Sewer and Water Supervisor Chuck McVey to $28.98 an hour. Unless his pay is raised, Penner said McVey will only be making slightly more money than the newly hired foreman despite his decades of experience.

Penner said when he created the public employee salary schedule, he accidentally placed McVey too low on the pay scale. Mayor Chuck Davis agreed that the water and sewer supervisor should receive a raise.

The Saratoga town council voted to increase the pay rate of Sewer and Water Supervisor Chuck McVey.
