Carbon County needs qualified EMTs and free classes are available to anyone looking to become a first medical responder.

South Central Wyoming EMS, or SCWEMS, is sponsoring the training for two candidates. The online classes, through North American Rescue, require a minimum of 180 hours of course time. Applicants have up to a year to finish the classes. SCWEMS Director Stayton Mosbey explains what happens when a person finishes the online course.

SCWEMS will pay for the entirety of the training, which comes to about $2,000 in total. When the person has finished their instruction, they will be eligible to take the practical and written tests necessary to become a licensed EMT. Mosbey talked about some of the skills applicants will learn.

An EMT would run an ambulance and provide whatever emergency care the patient requires. Mosbey said, in exchange for funding the training, SCWEMS requires the person to volunteer for at least one year.

If someone is interested in applying for one of the two available openings, Mosbey mentioned how to contact him.

November 8th is the application deadline. Mosbey said he would extend the deadline if he does not receive enough applications.
