Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Grey was threatened over the telephone this week by someone apparently upset about changes to how elections are conducted in the Cowboy State.
Grey posted a recording of the message to his Facebook page. In his post, the Secretary of State pointed the finger at what he called the “radical Left” which opposes the election reforms the Secretary has introduced.
The voicemail runs about three minutes in length and is interspersed with obscenities. The cellular phone connection is spotty at times during the length of the recording. The ominous-sounding voice also makes threats of physical violence against the Secretary.
In posting the audio to his Facebook page, Grey announced, “I will never back down. I will continue standing for the people of Wyoming by defending the truth and working for election integrity.”
Earlier this week, Grey called on some county clerks in Wyoming to retest their electronic voting systems.
The secretary told the clerks that the request was the result of complaints received by his office.
The Casper Star Tribune reports The Wyoming Freedom Caucus responded to the incident saying that the message “is an example of the radical left demonizing conservatives.”
Carbon County conservative activist Joey Correnti posted a simple definition on Gray’s Facebook page. It reads, “Terrorism: The use, or threatened use of violence or intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.”
The primary election is this Tuesday, August 20th. The General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5.
