In Washington, D.C. on Thursday, the US Senate voted to confirm John Ratcliffe, with overwhelming bipartisan support, as Director of the CIA. The vote came after several days of Democrat delays, but Ratcliff now fills a key post in President Donald Trump’s national security team.

The vote was 74-25 to approve Ratcliffe, who served as the Director of National Intelligence from 2020-2021 during Trump’s first term in office.

In a statement, Wyoming Senator John Barrasso said, “Ratcliffe’s confirmation is a win for our national security. Frankly, it should have been done two days ago. Democrats unnecessarily delayed this important vote.”

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Nominee Pete Hegseth moved one step closer to confirmation after his nomination passed a big procedural hurdle on Thursday afternoon.

The full Senate voted 51-49 to consider Hegseth’s nomination, before the confirmation could take place on Friday evening, January 24.

Meanwhile, the confirmation hearing for Tulsi Gabbard to serve as Director of National Intelligence has been scheduled for January 3o.
