The sheriff’s department will hold a public auction in Rawlins this afternoon to sell three surplus county vehicles.

Sheriff Alex Bakken announced the surplus vehicle auction on Monday. Three county-0wned vehicles will be sold to the highest bidders at 1:00 this afternoon outside the Carbon County Jail.

Last week, the Board of Carbon County Commissioners authorized the surplus vehicle auction.

During the county commissioners meeting held on May 7, Sheriff Bakken asked for permission to sell two old patrol trucks. The sheriff said both vehicles need new engines.

Deputy County Clerk Lisa Smith said the county fire department also has a 17-year-old Ford F-150 to sell. Deputy Clerk Smith said Road and Bridge Superintendent Kandis Fritz also wishes to dispose of a 50-year-old trailer.

The commissioners asked Sheriff Bakken if he had a minimum price in mind for his two patrol trucks. Because of the poor condition of the vehicles, the sheriff did not set a reserve.

Despite serious mechanical issues, County Fire Warden John Rutherford said his department’s truck is operable. Fire Warden Rutherford suggested setting a $1,200 reserve on the vehicle.

Road and Bridge Superintendent Fritz was unable to suggest a minimum bid for her department’s trailer.

Commissioner John Johnson moved to approve the auction with no reserve bids. The motion carried.

Sheriff Bakken announced the surplus vehicle auction for this afternoon. The auction will include both patrol vehicles and the fire department truck. The flatbed trailer is not included.

The vehicles are listed as a white 2017 Ram 1500 with 167,287 miles on it. Sheriff Bakken writes that the truck has been diagnosed as needing an engine replacement.

The second patrol vehicle is a white 2018 Ram 1500. Mileage is listed at 164,805. Like the first truck, Sheriff Bakken writes that this vehicle has been diagnosed as needing an engine replacement.

The third vehicle up for auction is the fire department’s 2007 Ford F-150 with 171,314 miles on the clock.

The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Surplus Vehicle Auction will take place at the Carbon County Jail, located at 1302 East Daley Street in Rawlins at 1:00 this afternoon. Cash and checks will be accepted. All vehicles are being sold as-is, with no warranty expressed or implied.
