Sheriff Archie Roybal reminds people who need to conduct ordinary business with his office not to come to the county jail. Like other county departments, the sheriff’s office has been displaced while the courthouse is remodeled.

The sheriff says unless you’re being booked into the jail or visiting someone who is incarcerated, you should go to the Carbon Building.

The sheriff’s department has an office on the second floor of the Carbon Building where you can conduct other business, such as fingerprints and VINs. The sheriff’s department processes the fingerprint requests for conceal carry permits, the Department of Family Services and even housing establishments. The jail staff cannot handle those requests, the sheriff said.

The Carbon Building is located at 215 West Buffalo Street in Rawlins. The fingerprint requests are handled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from  1-3 p.m.
